NGC 2170, also known as LBN 994, is a bright blue reflection nebula lying 2400 light-years from Earth in the constellation Monoceros. It is located half way down this image near the right edge, but it is part of a complex group of multiple nebulae known collectively as The Angel Nebula. The emission nebula immediately to the left. of NGC 2170 is Monoceros R2 IR53 and the blue reflection nebula immediately to the left of that is vDB 69. The circular mixed emission and blue reflection nebula at top right is vDB 68. The large emission nebula at bottom is LBN999. Silhouetted in front of LBN999 is a complex dark nebula with multiple long tentacles. Curiously, this object fascinating dark nebula did not make it into the LDN catalog. Rather, it is cataloged as Dobahsi 4977. The mixed blue reflection and emission nebula at upper left is NGC 2182.
