Lynds Dark Nebula 1106 in Cepheus

This is an interesting region containing several of Lynds Dark Nebulae. The entire region is back lit by the large emission nebula IC 1396 in Cepheus, the same emission nebula that contains the Elephant Trunk Nebula. These dark nebulae are a bit south of the Elephant Trunk. The dark globule in the lower center of the image with wisps trailing off to the left side of the image is LDN 1106. It is sometimes referred to as the Jumping Frog Nebula because the dark globule at the end resembles a jumping frog, complete with legs and web feet. Others refer to it as the Squished Frog Nebula, as the dark nebulosity trailing off to the left might be the result of the frog being squished by a car or the like. The dark nebula directly above the frog is LDN 1103 and the wisps trailing off to the left of that is LDN 1104. The dark nebula in the upper right corner is LDN 1095 and the large dark nebula along the left edge is LDN 1101.
