M97, The Owl Nebula in Ursa Major

M97, The Owl Nebula, is a planetary nebula lying 2,300 light-years from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. It is the shell of gas shed by a red giant star near the end of its life. The entire nebula resembles the face of an owl due to the darker, delicate internal structures resembling the owl’s eyes. This nebula is estimated to be about 8,000 years old.

Exposures: L:R:G:B = 130:65:65:65 minutes = 5 hours, 25 minutes total exposure, all unguided.
