M31, The Andromeda Galaxy, Northern Third

The Andromeda Galaxy, M31, is so large in the sky that it cannot fit in the field of view of my telescope and CCD camera. Therefore, I had to shoot it in three separate panels: one for the northern third, one for the central third, and one for the southern third. This image shows the northern third. Chief features in this image are the giant star cloud NGC 206 near the center, which is 4000 light-years in length, and the outer blue spiral arm in the upper left corner. It is fund to zoom in on this image and get lost in the incredible detail within the Andromeda Galaxy.

Exposures: Ha:LR:G:G = 450:200:80:80:80 minutes = 14 hours, 50 minutes total exposure, completely unguided.
