Beverly Turner Lynds, Ph.D., the author of the famous Lynds Catalogue of Dark Nebulae (Astrophysical Journal, 1962) and the Lynds Catalogue of Bright Nebulae (Astrophysical Journal, 1965) was one of my nearest and dearest friends. She retired only a few miles from me and we became best astronomy buddies. We had monthly lunches together at our mutually favorite restaurants or each others’ homes and we exchanged email messages almost daily. She loved visiting my observatory. This image is from May, 2024. Bev died peacefully at a hospice in Portland, OR on October 5, 2024 after suffering a stroke in early September.
